EUGENE, Ore. -- The period we live in now is one for the history books, and local artists are coming together to preserve this moment in time.
They have created a seven-ton metal statue at the BRING Recycling Store in Eugene.
It's made up of different metal pieces found around Lane County to represent the history of the area.
BRING Recycling said they serve as an interactive experience for area residents to enjoy and they're glad to be giving items a new purpose by reusing them in art.
"Well this project is kind of the crown jewel of BRING," said Executive Director Carolyn Stein. "For many years it's been part of our values and our culture here to have public art pieces where people can come and view art where they shop or where they visit. You don't have to go to a gallery, and you don't' have to go to a museum to see art."
A time capsule will be placed under the statue. Community members who would like to include an item in the capsule should not bring an item larger than the palm of their hand.
