COBURG, Ore. -- With spring upon us, Caleb Johnson with Johnson Brothers Garden Market said this is the perfect time to start vegetable planting.

Tomatoes and peppers are two extremely popular varieties that Johnson said are best planted in a sunny spot.

Johnson also noted that they both require a lot of fertilizer because tomatoes and peppers can often have calcium deficiency, which can leave them with brown mushy spots when ready to harvest.

In terms of watering tomatoes and peppers, Johnson said to water them and then let them dry out a bit, but when they start to bloom and produce fruit, try to remain consist in watering.
