EUGENE, Ore. -- Apprenticeships look a little different these days, especially during a time when it's not possible to meet in person to get that hands-on experience.

Chambers Construction has been forced to essentially stop their apprenticeship program, causing a backlog in graduation from the program.

Mark Harrington, the recruiter for the apprenticeship program said all hiring and all training for the program is on hold during this time, causing extra pressure for their existing workforce.

"We will be hiring," he said. "That is going to happen down the road. It's just a matter of when we get released to start having the bigger meeting we need to be able to have to do the training. There's no sense to hire somebody and then just have them."

Harrington said that even though they can't hire currently, he still encourages those interested to apply because he is actively composing a waitlist for those who expressed interest in applying, and when they can begin training again, they will be hearing from the company.

Starting pay once you graduate from the apprenticeship program is $24 an hour.
