EUGENE, Ore. -- The city of Eugene held its second annual Operation: Food Rescue Saturday as part of the Love Food Not Waste program.
With 40 million pounds of food going to waste every year in Eugene, city officials are trying to lower that number.
Officials said at the event, attendees learned how to cut back on wasted food, both in your house and in the community.
“So this will give community members the ability to see that a lot of food just goes to waste because it’s too weird looking,” said Allie Breyer, waste prevention analyst with the city of Eugene. “So really it’s just teaching people about ugly produce and how we can embrace the ugly food as opposed to just throwing it away.”
Organizers said it’s a family-friendly event with activities and live music.
It was held Sept. 22 at WildCraft Cider Works, 232 Lincoln Street.
