EUGENE, Ore. - People in Eugene hit the pavement to help spread the word about October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Eugene Health Care Center held a mile long walk Thursday.

They were one of the several facilities around the state participating in this event, which focused on how widespread the effects of breast cancer can be.

"I saw the hardships that a disease like that can bring to someone," said Fernando Velasquez, a V.A. Employee. "I think taking a small part in this walk can be beneficial for everybody."

Marlene Monette, another V.A. employee and breast cancer survivor, agreed and added that it's nice to have the support.

Other participating medical facilities around the state included the Roseburg V.A. Medical Center and North Bend V.A. Clinic.
