2014 standoff in nevada. oregon governor kate brown is taking the battle against the opioid crisis to the nation's capital. she testified today in front of the senate committee on health, education, labor and pensions. the governor discussed the statewide impacts and priorities when it comes to the crisis. she also addressed her recently passed legislation requiring a state agency to study barriers to effective treatment and recovery from addiction. she says it's a big issue with broad consequences. "if we can make meaningful change in prevention, treatment, and recovery from substance abuse, we can create better lives for our families. we can seemore success for our students in schools. we would lift a burden off of our hospitals and our law enforcement and our prisons." this issue is personal for governor brown. she shared the story of her stepson's battle against addiction. she says she's seen the damage opioids can cause, and now is the time for action.
