EUGENE, Ore. -- Nearly 100 athletes participated in the South Valley District Oregon High School Equestrian Teams (OHSET) Meet over the weekend.
The three day event started on Friday and wrapped up Sunday evening.
Organizers said 14 high schools from the lower Willamette Valley participated.
They said the meet featured various team and individual events that were judged based on speed, precision and technical skills.
KEZI spoke to one athlete who shared her love for the sport.
"Being out there in front of everyone I always get a really big adrenaline rush,” said Mariah Evans. “I come out of the arena shaking every time and it's really nice to know how many people support me and hearing everyone cheering is a lot of fun and seeing my horse perk up when she comes in the arena is also a lot of fun because I know she really enjoys it."
Organizers estimate more than 900 people attended the meet.
They said the OHSET State Championships will be in Redmond, Oregon from May 10th-13th at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds Expo Center.
